Dear Room 19 Families,
I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun labor day! I spent sometime with my family in Michigan! One last stroll at the lake!
I cannot believe we have been back for a month already! Teaching and learning with Room 19 students has been so fun! Learners are doing excellent working together, following procedures, and interacting with our learning!
Up and running: Our classroom library, Daily Math Fact Stations Practice, Math Stations (skills practice, review, and small group instruction), Reading Stations started today. With Reading Stations your reader will get a weekly stations packet. Students have approximately 15-20minutes for each station, if a station is not completed in class it should be finished at home so that it can still be turned in on Friday.
Our learning this week continues with:
- Reading-Unit 1, Lesson 2 in Journey's-The Royal Mystery, skill: theme, strategy: questioning, prefixes un-, dis-, mis-, un-, fluency skill: expression, stations packet due Friday, Reading quiz over vocabulary and theme on Friday.
- Social Science-Continuing with sinking and floating experiments and boat building! Physical Features, defining culture, 5 US regions and there physical features.
- Writing-Editing and revising personal narrative first drafts. During the writing process students will learn that writing is not done during the first draft, but takes many times of editing and revising. Although, we may feel done, we should always go back to make our writing better, just like authors such as J.K. Rowling.
- Math-We did a really fun lesson on multiplying and dividing by Powers of 10! This is the last standard in Unit 1 before we test on Friday. Students will be reviewing number lines, rounding numbers to the thousandths, comparing decimals to the thousandths, ordering decimals and writing decimals in three forms, (word, standard, and expanded)
Assessments this week will consist of:
- DMR Quiz-Friday
- Unit 1 Math Assessment-Friday
- Weekly Reading Quiz-Friday (vocab and theme)
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week!
